Students sour
over milk arrests
Extras
A pair of Miami University students were arrested on Oxford's Green Beer Day for an incident involving a beverage.
It wasn't alcohol that landed the pair in trouble, though, with this crime revolving around a gallon of Meyer milk.
Officers noticed 22-year-old Stephanie Mettler, 5255 Riviera Drive, Toledo, snatch a gallon of milk from the back of a delivery truck next to the U-Shop. Police pursued Mettler, who allegedly went into the doorway of Steinkeller and attempted to hide the gallon from officers.
When questioned about the stolen milk, Mettler allegedly became increasingly belligerent toward police. Officers said Julia Richardson, a friend of Mettler, approached them and began yelling at them.
Richardson, 21, 2720 Alta West Road, Mansfield, started arguing with officers about Mettler's arrest. After police asked Richardson to walk away three times, she was placed under arrest for obstructing official business.
Mettler was taken to Oxford Police Department, where she was detained, issued a citation for theft and eventually released.
Police shock fleeing fighter during melee
A Milton, Ind., resident was incapacitated Friday, March 14, as he attempted to flee from an officer.
Police were dispatched to Brick Street Bar shortly after 2 a.m., where several people were engaged in a large fight. Responding officers attempted to break up the participants, but were unable to do so.
The officer described the combatants as throwing punches to each others' faces and upper bodies, refusing to stop when instructed to do so. After pulling out a Taser and informing the fighters she would deploy the barbs if they did not stop, the officer was able to break up the majority of the fights.
One particular brawl between two parties ended abruptly, with one of the suspects taking off running. The remaining man was left with the officer, who attempted to investigate what had prompted the fight. Cody Delucio, 20, attempted to run away from the officer as well, but was quickly subdued with the Taser.
Delucio, 10581 West U.S. Hwy 40, Milton, Ind., fell to the ground immediately and was reportedly compliant with officers from that point forward. Oxford Life Squad ensured that Delucio had not sustained any serious injuries, then assisted in transporting him to the Oxford Police Department.
Police report Delucio was cooperative while in custody and admitted that running from an officer with a Taser was not a good choice. Delucio was issued citations for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, then released on his own recognizance.
Trio charged for drugs, one for sign
Three Miami University students were charged March 13 for various drug-related charges, with one receiving a citation for a Goggin Ice Arena sign.
Police executed a search warrant on 210 S. Campus Ave., where they found a plastic container housing marijuana, several pipes, a bong, rolling papers, a grinder, several unidentifiable pills, Adderall, miscellaneous paraphernalia and a stolen Goggin Ice Arena sign.
Felix Joseph, 19, was charged with drug abuse and drug paraphernalia. Police said Joseph's room housed the majority of the seized items, including the marijuana, pipes and bong. Jeffrey Baker, 22, was cited for possession of a schedule II narcotic after police found several Adderall pills in his bedroom. Christopher Wilson, 22, was charged with drug abuse and drug paraphernalia.
Though he escaped any drug-related charges, roommate Christopher Davis, 22, was charged with receiving stolen property for a Goggin Ice Arena sign police found while searching the residence.
Snowball fight brings citations
Two men were arrested March 13 after police witnessed them throwing snowballs at and into a passing convertible.
Officers pursued a group of fleeing subjects, catching 19-year-old Gavin Stefanski, 161 Thompson Hall, in an alleyway behind 210 S. Poplar St. Police said Stefanski's hands were cold and the Miami University student admitted to throwing snowballs, but denied throwing them at the car.
While apprehending Stefanski, officers noticed an additional male walking away from them in the same alley. They spoke with Patrick Kuffel, 20, 310 Bishop St., who said he was not involved and was simply walking down the alley.
Police found fake driver's licenses on both men, who were transported to the Oxford Police Department. Kuffel and Stefanski were both charged with underage intoxication and certain acts prohibited.
