Florida police arrested a University of Dayton student for allegedly detonating a partial stick of dynamite at a Daytona Beach Shores hotel, causing one injury and up to $12,000 in damage and lost revenue.
Christopher R. Romano, 21, who's listed on UD's Web site as a marketing major, is accused of discharging a destructive device causing injury and property damage, a first-degree felony, according to a Daytona Beach Shores police report released Friday, March 21.

Police also arrested Timothy M. Becktel and Michael J. Bolt, both 21, of LaGrange, Ill., on the same charge. They are not listed as students at UD, which is on spring break this week.
Daytona Beach Shores officers patrolling the area heard the explosion about 2:30 a.m. Friday on the south side of the Oceanside Inn, police said. Several witnesses, including a couple rocked from their bed, reported that it occurred on a second-floor sundeck.
Officers found three windows shattered and a metal light pole destroyed.
Surveillance video led to the three suspects, who were guests at the hotel, police said. The three were seen on the video running from the explosion.
Bechtel, who had a laceration on his arm when he was apprehended, confessed to the crime, saying he and Bolt acted as lookouts as Romano detonated a partial stick of dynamite, police said.
No other explosives were found in the men's room.
Guests from two rooms had to be relocated and the hotel will be unable to rent those rooms for a month, resulting in a loss of $8,000 to $10,000 in revenue, police said. Damage from the blast was estimated at $2,000.
UD classes resume Tuesday.
