Video game fans are revving their engines for the midnight release of "Grand Theft Auto IV."

The latest installment in the best-selling, controversial video game series goes on sale at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, April 29.

Extras

About 200 people have reserved "Grand Theft Auto IV" at the Game Crazy store on Patterson Road in Dayton. Game Crazy will open late tonight, April 28, for the midnight release.

The EB Games store in Miami Twp. also will open its doors today at midnight to accommodate eager gamers.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game systems.

Analysts predict the new game will top the first-week video game sales record of $300 million set in 2007 by "Halo 3."

"Grand Theft Auto IV" arrives without the ballyhoo of the "Halo 3" game release. Dayton-area Best Buy stores will not open at midnight for the "GTA IV" release, nor will the GameStop store in the Dayton Mall.

"GTA IV" is an open-world, action-driving game that allows players to explore fictional Liberty City, heavily based on New York City.

Players can hijack cars, earn cash for criminal activities, flee from police, drive drunk, kill innocent bystanders and patronize strip clubs.

"GTA IV" is rated M for mature, for blood, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, drug use and alcohol use.

The "Grand Theft Auto" series has sold 30 million games since its launch in 1997.
