Fantasy Football: Not-so-obvious picks can produce wins

Thursday, November 08, 2007

As the season reaches critical mass, these columns merge into one-stop shopping for those who have decisions to make and games to win.

First, one piece of advice. Try to grab Kansas City's Priest Holmes and/or Kolby Smith. Larry Johnson may be hurting the rest of the season.

Extras

With that, here are your Week 10 nonobvious picks:

Quarterback: Kansas City's Damon Huard and Buffalo's J.P. Losman.

Denver is reeling. Though inconsistent, Huard could light up the Broncos.

Losman looked great, albeit against the Bengals. But the Dolphins have given up as many points (244) as Cincy.

Other picks: St. Louis' Marc Bulger, Arizona's Kurt Warner.

Running back: Carolina's DeShaun Foster and Oakland's Justin Fargas.

Foster had 63 yards against Tennessee's rugged run defense. Atlanta's D is not even close to the Titans.

Fargas (104 yards, TD last week) is the healthier, better Raiders back. The Bears D you remember is gone.

Other picks: Atlanta's Warrick Dunn, Chicago's Cedric Benson.

Receiver: Cincinnati's Chris Henry and Baltimore's Derrick Mason.

Done with his NFL suspension, Henry could contribute right away, especially if Chad Johnson isn't 100 percent.

The Ravens' offense is as hard to watch as the Bengals' defense. But that's the matchup. If Steve McNair can actually hang onto the ball, he'll get it to Mason.

Other picks: Miami's Marty Booker, Green Bay's Donald Driver.

Week 9 nonobvious recap

At quarterback, the picks were Denver's Jay Cutler and Washington's Jason Campbell.

Ouch. Cutler was 3 of 4 and then hurt his leg. We can not be responsible for in-game injuries (it's in the fine print). Campbell finished his game, but was just 12-of-23 for 142 yards and a pick. Against the Jets.

At running back, the selections were Tampa Bay's Earnest Graham and Denver's Selvin Young (if he started). Well, Young didn't start and had just 27 total yards.

Graham, though, ran for 134 yards and a score. That's got to be a big day in any format.

At receiver, the calls were Buffalo's Lee Evans and Seattle's Bobby Engram.

Bingo. Evans had nine catches for 165 yards and a score against the Bengals. Engram had 14 grabs for 139 yards and a TD. Cha-ching.
